I live in a rural area with a heavy population of “lazy” squirrels; they would rather hit a feeder than forage! I had purchased 3 other feeder brands, all supposed to be “squirrel proof,” and watched the satisfied “non-customers” still happily chowing down my expensive seed.
Finally I decided to make the investment in a Squirrel Buster, which I had seen advertised in one of my gardening magazines. It arrived quite promptly and was very well constructed (no plastic feed outlets for the critters to gnaw through if they got that far) and I hung it up and watched. Initially the family of red squirrels hit it and did manage to get some seeds out, so I figured this company is confident enough to call these “Squirrel Buster,” they must have a solution for “underweight” squirrels who did not trigger the sleeve drop completely! I called their 800 number and was answered by a human being not a machine, who said there was an adjustment to make easily on the bottom of the feeder and if that didn’t solve it, they have little weights to add on that will take care of it for sure! I made the adjustment, and voila! the squirrels were baffled, literally, and finally, after a couple days, gave up totally on it! I was thrilled not to be feeding this particular family of unwanted guests!
