Weber 7527 Stainless Steel Replacement Cooking Grates Review

(1) If you have a Weber grille with the original el-cheapo porcelain coated grates, this is the item to buy! The grates do discolor after the first use but that doesnt affect the performance of them. The heat distribution is nice and even. The old porcelain coated grates wear out the coating, rust and warp. The stainless steel replacements are actually what Weber should have included when the grille was new especially considering what they ask for the grille brand new. I will be replacing any component with the stainless as the original parts go bad.

(2) I replaced the original porceline enamel grates on my Weber Genesis Silver B with stainless and am very happy. I think they are worth the few extra dollars over the porceline enamel because they will probably last twice as long. I got about 5 years out of the porceline enamel, using the grill about 30-40 times a year. The coating eventually wore away in some places and rust began to bubble up.

My only wish is that they made them a little thicker so they retain more heat when searing steak. I will probably buy a set of the cast iron grates for this purpose and use cast iron on the right side and stainless on the left. The right side of my grill is usually hotter.

Weber makes awesome products and is the only brand of grill I will ever buy for the rest of my life. I know I will have no problem replacing the stainless grates (or any part for that matter) when they wear out.

(3) My original, porcelain-coated grates had chipped and were starting to rust. Since the rest of the grill is still in great shape (after changing the flavor bars to stainless steel too), I decided to try these stainless steel grates. I was concerned at first because they were so much lighter and thinner than the iron ones. But they seem to work fine. I still get a good sear when the grates are hot and the meats don’t seem to stick to these grates any more than they did to the originals. So I’m happy with the purchase, and I think these grates will last a long time.
