Starrett C33H-12-4R 12-Inch Combination Square with Square Head Only Review

(1) One’s measuring tools should be accurate, even perfect if possible. This is a superb instrument that inspires confidence. Honestly, it is a delight. I’ve never regretted spending the extra $ to have something that can be trusted. For woodworking at least, it can take the place of machinist’s squares.

(2) Like almost everyone else here, I put off buying a premium combination square because of cost, and made do with cheaper combos, simple engineer’s squares, various rules, etc. Further, I hesitated because opinions on Starrett’s quality varies among machinists and from tool-to-tool. Many prefer Browne & Sharpe or Japanese lines like Mitutoyo. In the end, I finally broke down and bought the Starrett, really as much because it’s the only commonly-available premium combination square as for any other reason – and couldn’t be happier with it. It is accurate and smooth. It’s actually one of those few tools where you feel the quality every time you pick it up. It’s a pleasure to use it, so much so that I intend to pick up one of the 6″ versions as well.
(3) I recentley ordered the Starrett comb. square that I needed in my furniture shop for a long time as my old square was not accurate to say the least. I find the new Starrett everything I had hoped for, right on the money for 90 and 45 degrees, well machined and marked, and smooth to adjust. My only regret is that I did not get one sooner.
